In 2006, I returned to Asheville to exhibit at that year’s Bele Chere. I had only moved away for seven or eight months, but it still seemed like a grand homecoming… To commemorate the occasion, I pulled out around thirty samples of dried ink and spent a few hours photographing them. The next day, I printed up giclĂ©e print editions for twenty-five of the frames—- four 17 x 22” and four 8.5 x 11” of each.
What I had forgotten in all this time, is how many great out-takes there were for such a short session. Looking over them again, it’s interesting (in a self-analytical way) to see why I chose certain frames for printing, and not others.
So now, I’ll present them to you in what will become a regular feature. The first batch here, for some reason, was completely passed over. If memory serves correct, I had already picked out both brownish and purplish photos, and figured these would be somewhat redundant with bolder or brighter compositions still available.
